SJSU
What's Up, Dude?
Submitted by bj on Sat, 2008-10-25 00:34.So I suspect that a number of you that know me might be curious as to what I've been doing with myself since leaving San Jose State. I graduated in May and left my full-time SJSU post at the College of Engineering in late June. Since then, however, I've been relatively silent on the job front. This, unfortunately, has been somewhat intentional--my employer does not want me to blog about them. So I won't.
I think, however, that I'm free to talk about the sort of work I've been doing in general.

Graduation: Another Opportunity to Give the Bookstore Money
Submitted by bj on Fri, 2008-03-21 00:08.As I peer through my to-do list for the next couple of months, graduation looms nigh. It's about damn time, but I find it interesting all the stuff the folks at the SJSU bookstore have made available to throw money at:

Submitted by bj on Tue, 2007-12-25 04:43.Grades are in. Bit lacksadasical (for me, anyway)...

T'ai Chi and the Art of Software Engineering
Submitted by bj on Wed, 2007-11-07 14:36.So my T'ai Chi class requires that every student write a paper (!) that relates to TC somehow. The paper below is what happens when you mix a vague requirement with someone who is rather verbose and is one semester from graduating with a CS degree.
Oddly enough, I think I do a passable job relating Chi with the flow effect. Click "read more" to continue...
SJSU Ignores (Some) GE Certifications?
Submitted by bj on Wed, 2007-08-29 17:19.Update: Issue has been Resolved!
This post has been a long time in coming--since I work for SJSU, I had to clear it with the Powers That Be that I'm OK to write such a thing. That said, here's a disclaimer: These are my experiences and opinions, SJSU can't have them :-). This article will be edited and reposted whenever new information becomes available.
For the last two years, seven months, and 25 days (and counting), I've been trying to get San Jose State University to grant me credit for all lower division general education requirements. This is the story of how I got here, why I'm still waiting, and what this might mean for the community at large. Many thanks to the folks at Mission College and the Ombudsman's office at SJSU for their continued help--with any luck, this will be fixed and someday I'll be able to graduate. A, A-
Submitted by bj on Thu, 2007-05-31 01:04.Well, it's yet another semester in the can, and here's the results:
| CS 154 - Formal Languages & Computability | A |
|---|---|
| Phil 134 - Computers, Ethics & Society | A- |
They were both morning classes, so I guess I shouldn't complain about the A- in my 7:30. My instructor and I didn't see eye-to-eye all that much, so I'll just count my blessings and move on.
