Graduation Pictures Via Time Travel
Submitted by bj on Fri, 2008-04-18 00:13.These fell out of a time vortex today (or they will have fallen tomorrow into a vortex centered in today, or... Ugh. Paradoxes make my brain hurt). Anyway, here's some pics:
The Googlification of Schmong.org
Submitted by bj on Sun, 2008-04-13 00:59.Hi all!
In the interest of saving myself a bunch of headaches, I've moved schmong.org's email to Google Apps. This means primarily:
- Spam filtration should be much better.
- Access time overall should be greatly improved.
- The web UI will be much better.
- You'll need to change your client settings. Bummer, but it's relatively easy...
Yay, Yay Matt & Trey! Who's Gonna Sue You Today?
Submitted by bj on Fri, 2008-04-11 00:43.So I'm a big fan of South Park and not so much a fan of the Disney Company, so I would love to extend my thanks to Matt & Trey for their parodic depiction of a certain overly-endowed mouse (click to see it uncensored):
Thank you VERY MUCH, South Park guys. I hope this sets a trend.
Painting the Pickup Bed Black
Submitted by bj on Sun, 2008-04-06 01:09.So I drive a 2001 Ford Ranger and have already accessorized with an MP3 car stereo and a toolbox. Next step? Definitely a bed liner.
...but only direct-contact (i.e. painted-in) bed liners do anything about preventing rust, and professionally sprayed-in liners (such as Line-X and Rhino) are about $600. The alternative? Do it yourself. AutoZone sells a kit by Herculiner for about $90. It includes a gallon of coating product, two rollers, a brush, an abrasion pad and some miscellany. Pictures after the break...
Hummer of Silicon Valley Going Out of Business
Submitted by bj on Mon, 2008-03-31 02:36.Stevens Creek Boulevard on the Santa Clara/San Jose border is home to at least a dozen car dealerships. A few years ago, a Hummer dealership opened right at Saratoga Avenue and Stevens Creek--smack in the center of Silicon Valley--and at least 50 miles from anywhere that a Hummer's capabilities would actually be useful for anything. Given that there's also a Hummer dealership in Los Gatos (which is somewhat more appropriate terrain-wise), this was obvious pandering to the uber-yuppie set and pissed me off thoroughly.
But now this:

Here's hoping this is for real and not a cheap marketing ploy.
Connection Whoring on LinkedIn
Submitted by bj on Mon, 2008-03-24 13:51.So I finally broke down and started messing with this LinkedIn thing with some degree of seriousness when my old buddy Michael Birmingham sent me an invite (my old profile was never all that serious).
Anyway, I started sending invites to a bunch of people from Sun, Taos, and so on. I thought I'd sent a ridiculous number, since you're SUPPOSED to invite only folks who know you relatively well. Today, I have 16 connections, a number I'm reasonably happy with (I feel I could give a reasonable bit of feedback on each one). Some of my contacts are themselves pushing 300 contacts, however, and I can't imagine that fits with the spirit of LI. But what do I know?
Graduation: Another Opportunity to Give the Bookstore Money
Submitted by bj on Fri, 2008-03-21 00:08.As I peer through my to-do list for the next couple of months, graduation looms nigh. It's about damn time, but I find it interesting all the stuff the folks at the SJSU bookstore have made available to throw money at:
